Thanks for visiting MultiMaker Systems. Please look for our Kickstarter project launch on April 16. Stop back in a few days and we will have much more to show you.
My name is Scott, and I’m excited to tell you about our Kickstarter project: the Multimaker Innovation Station. It starts with an advanced, durable, and extendable 3-D printer, and adds the ability to manufacture circuit boards. This makes it possible to quickly turn an idea into reality by creating a working prototype in one day.
This is something that only big companies could do, a capability that generally costs tens of thousands of dollars. The Multimaker will offer this capability for under $1000.
And this system is suitable for everyone — from students and beginners interested in the fast growing DIY (“Do It Yourself”) community, to professionals like myself that develop products for a living.
With the Multimaker, our innovative approach brings together a number of capabilities that exist separately, but typically require expensive and disconnected systems.
Tremendous advances have been made in the past few years in open source projects that have revolutionized a number of technologies, including 3D printing, open hardware, open software, Arduino, CNC, and others. We will integrate and build upon these technologies to produce a system that is both open and affordable. We believe this system will be a sort of ‘Swiss Army Knife’ for creative technology development.
A successful Kickstarter campaign will allow us to refine our working prototype and get access to the tooling and machining that will allow the cost of the system to be affordable. Please partner with us to make this dream a reality. I truly believe that you will be helping to create a system that could help to kickstart the economy — your economy.
What makes the Multimaker different?
The Multimaker is designed to evolve and protect your investment. In the past two years I have purchased several 3D printer kits, only to spend more money to upgrade them or move up to a newer model as they quickly become obsolete. The Multimaker is durable and ready to upgrade. Any new printer head or PCB drill that comes out can be easily adapted to fit the Multimaker with metal adapter plates that we will provide (or that you can easily make).
The Multimaker System is compatible with the most widely used systems and components. Indeed, if you have an existing printer, you can easily recoup some of your investment by moving the extruder and electronics to the Multimaker. In effect, the Multimaker provides a 3D printer upgrade path.
There is no creaking birch plywood that distorts with temperature, humidity and usage. The machine is all metal, with machined enhancements. It is lightweight, open and strong. It has optimized weight and rigidity where needed, and removes unwanted weight to allow the head to move quickly and precisely.
The Multimaker has a larger build area than the printer kits available today. This removes some of the limitations and frustrations that are often encountered with smaller kit versions.
